Credo Chamber Choir was founded in April, 2002. The head of the choir is a graduate of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P. Tchaikovsky, winner of the Grand Prix of the III Ukrainian competition for choral conductors, Bogdan Plish.
From the beginning, Credo managed to attract attention of a wide range of music fans and get rave reviews of the most influential musicians of the country. While performing sacred music, artists of the choir strive to achieve unity of highest artistic level of performance and warmth and inspiration of sincere prayer. This is how the choir creates its own unique performing manner.
The choir is a regular participant in international festivals “Kyiv-Music–Fest”, “Musical Premiere of the Season”, “Kyiv of Golden Domes”, and the International Easter Assembly. The team was invited to participate in the festival “Shevchenko’s March”, concerts dedicated to B. Lyatoshinsky, I. Shamo, S. Karabyts, G. Sviridov, “Vladimir Krainev invites” festival. At the MotsArtFest – II «AVE VERUM» the choir performed “Requiem” by W.A. Mozart together with the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine under the direction of M. Diadiura. The choir also participated in the performance of Purcell’s opera “Dido and Aeneas”, with the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra under the direction of R. Kofman. Together with Roman Kofman’s orchestra “Credo” performed cantata by J.S. Bach, “Gloria” by A. Vivaldi, “Adam’s Lament” and “Te Deum” by A. Part, “Saint Nicholas” cantata by B. Britten, “Requiem” by A. Schnittke, concert performance of the opera “Flight” by V. Bibik.
Credo Chamber Choir cooperates with the most renowned composers of Ukraine: E. Stankovych, L. Dychko, V. Silvestrov, M. Skorik, A. Gavrilets, V. Stepurko, M. Schuh, A. Rodin, V. Polevaya and others. The choir performed at the most prestigious halls in Kyiv – the Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Grand and Small Halls of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P. Tchaikovsky, the Hall of Organ and Chamber Music, the House of Scientists, Refectory Church and Assumption Cathedral in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, St. Andrew’s Church, and others.
In 2005-2019, Credo toured Russia, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Hungary. The choir participated in the IV, V and VII Moscow Easter Festivals (artistic director – V. Gergiev), and also took part in the IV International Festival of Sacred Music in Rottenburg, where the performance of Credo was recognized as “the crowning of the festival”.
The choir sang concerts in the most prestigious concert halls abroad: Concert Hall named after P. Tchaikovsky (Moscow, 2009), Concertgebouw (Amserdam, 2010), Berliner-Dom (Berlin, 2008), Berliner Philharmonie (Berlin, 2011). The choir won the XXIV International Competition of Sacred Music “Hainuwka-2005″ (Poland), took Grand Prix of the 44th International Choir Competition in Tolosa (Spain), became a finalist of the European Grand Prix in choral singing-2013 (Arezzo, Italy). In 2018 the choir was conducted by Ricardo Mutti taking part in international project ‘Ways of frienship. Ravenna – Kiev’. In December, 2018 Credo won ll-Ukrainian Coir Contest ‘Shchedryk Fest’.
There are large-scale works in the choir’s repertoire, such as W.A. Mozart’s “Requiem”, B. Britten’s cantata “Saint Nicholas”, J.S. Bach’s Cantatas, Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, A. Part’s “Adam’s Lament”, “Te Deum”, G. Purcell’s opera “Dido and Aeneas”, J. Brahms’ “German Requiem”, G. Sviridov’s “Chants and prayers”, A. Gretchaninov’s “Demestvennaya Liturgy”, P. Chesnokov’s cycle “In the Days of Battle”, A. Schnittke’s “Requiem”, V. Bibik’s opera “Flight”, A. Shchetinsky’s “Requiem”, V. Silvestrov’s cycle of spiritual works, A. Rodin’s “Requiem”, Bishop Jonathan’s (Eletskikh) “Chernobyl Liturgy”, as well as programs “Kyiv Chant”, “Easter New, Holy”, “Frescoes of St. Sophia”, “Musical Parallels”, “Silent Prayer”. Credo choir has recorded 5 CDs.
